Toucan Ruby and Fuchsite Gemstone Bird Carving
This hand carved Ruby and Fuchsite toucan bird gemstone carving is 3.1 inches tall by 4.5 inches deep and 1.4 inches thick.
Perhaps the most well known tropical bird, the toucan is a symbol of playfulness and intelligence. There are several species of birds in the toucan family, some with names like aracari or toucanet, but they all sport that large, comical bill.
This one has a waxy finish and lots of detail!
Ruby is the red variety of corundum, the second hardest natural mineral known to mankind. These nontransparent crystals are imbedded in a lovely dark green Zoisite.
This material comes from Tanzania.
This mineral was first found in 1805 in Austria. Zoisite was named for Sigmund Zois (1747-1819), Baron of Edelstein, whose interest in minerals led to his financing collecting expeditions. It is said it was originally called saualpite and only later renamed zoisite.
The Zoisite is granular and tends to appear sugary in the rough. The red corundum is typically a medium to low-grade ruby, which in some rocks exhibits fair to good hexagonal crystal outlines. The black amphibole appears as speckles.
Metaphysical Properties: Ruby and Zoisite is a beautiful combination that is said to relieve lethargy and boosts physical energy.
