This lovely Sodalite blue stone sphere is 1.5 inches or 40 mm in diameter.
Sodalite is a rich royal blue mineral found in massive chunks.
Sometimes Sodalite is found in crystals that are can be transparent or translucent.
The white inclusions are Calcite.
This semiprecious material comes from Bahia, Brazil.
Discovered in 1806 in Greenland, Sodalite did not become important as an ornamental stone until 1891 when vast deposits of fine material were discovered in Ontario, Canada.
Sodalite's name refers to its sodium content.
