Crazy Lace Agate has browns, blacks, grays and occasional pinks or reds swirled together in complex patterns of bands, eyes, tubes and orbs.
Crazy Lace Agate is infused with iron and aluminum and has a pattern similar to lace.
Crazy Lace Agate comes from various places but this semiprecious stone material is from the Sierra Santa Lucia of Chihuahua, Mexico.
Crazy Lace Agate was created in the cretaceous period, about 65-90 million years ago.
Mined since the 1950's, (the first commercial claim was filed in 1954), a huge amount of Crazy Lace Agate material has been consumed in the lapidary world. There are current active claims, as well as inactive claims that are worked sporadically. The locations are in rugged territories and difficult to reach.
Crazy Lace Agate forms in veins and is encased in Limestone, making it difficult to recover. It is primarily recovered with explosives.
