Sphalerite (sometimes spelled sphaelerite) is a sulfide mineral. It is the most important ore of zinc. Sphalerite is found in association with galena, chalcopyrite, pyrite (and other sulfides), calcite, dolomite, quartz, rhodochrosite, and fluorite.
German geologist Ernst Friedrich Glocker discovered sphalerite in 1847, naming it based on the Greek word sphaleros, meaning "deceiving", due to the difficulty of identifying the mineral.
Pyrite is the classic "Fool's Gold". The name "pyrite" comes from the Greek word "pyr" which means "fire", in obvious reference to its golden yellow color.
Metaphysical Properties: Pyrite is said to increase vitality and give one a boost. It is believed it enhances willpower, assist in overcoming bad habits, and establishes new patterns of health and positive energy. Sphalerite increases courage, drive, and focus levels. This mineral helps one truly believe in themselves, and their ability to achieve their full potential in this life.
