Labradorite has an background color of dark gray, but it displays a beautiful iridescence, giving off rainbow-colored reflections known as labradorescence when light hits it in certain directions.
Labradorite is a feldspar. Labradorite shows the iridescent display of colors due to minute inclusions of another mineral.
It is named after Labrador, Canada, although this piece, and a lot of gem grade material, comes from Madagascar.
