This lovely Moonstone semi precious gemstone egg is 2.2 inches or 56 mm in height.
Moonstone is a member of the Feldspar mineral group. It is named for its blue-white sheen which is caused by lamellar structure, and it can also produce a cat's eye flash of rainbow colors.
These eggs have small specks of these color flashes when under a bright light.
Moonstone eggs are hand cut and due to the material are pointed, lopsided and have flat spots.
The Romans thought Moonstone was born from solidified rays of the moon, which is probably where its name came from.
This Moonstone comes from India, but the material is also found in Sri Lanka, Australia, Myanmar (Burma), Brazil, Tanzania, and the U.S.
In India it is sacred stone and a traditional wedding gift.
