This lovely banded Malachite semiprecious stone egg carving is 2.5 inches or 62.5 mm in height.
Lovely green banded Malachite material! The gemstone material came from the Katanga Mine area in the Congo, Africa.
Malachite is a copper carbonate. It has a hardness between 3.5 and 4. It crystallizes in the monoclinic crystal system, and most often forms botryoidal, fibrous, or stalagmitic masses.
This material is found in the oxidation zone of major copper deposits.
This stone's name is from the Greek, malache, - "mallow" in reference to its green leaf color.
