Laguna Agate Polished Collector Rock
This lovely banded Laguna Agate geode is sliced and polished on one face, left natural on back and the edges.
This polished collector agate is 3.3 inches long by 1.7 inches wide and 1 inch at its thickest.
The Laguna Agate area is in the Estacion Ojo Laguna area in the state of Chihuahua, about 150 miles south of the U.S.-Mexican border.
It is found in 13 different mine sites high in the mountains on the north to south mountain range covering a distance of over 4 miles. Many of these mine sites are not accessible by road.
The location was discovered in the late 1940's or early 1950's. The Conejeros Mine was mined in 1995 with heavy equipment and large quantities of excellent quality was produced for about 8 years. About 6 of the other locations have also produced great quality.
Among agate collectors Laguna Agates are often considered to be the most colorful and beautiful agates in the world.
Laguna Agate sometimes contains sagenites, moss inclusions and/or tube patterns.
