This small but lovely transparent apple green Jade piece from Wyoming is slabbed and polished on one side and it is 3 inches by 2.4 inches and 12.5 mm or 1/2 inch thick.
Wyoming's apple green Nephrite Jade is one of the largest deposits and finest nephrite jade in the world.
Jade was named Wyoming's state gemstone in 1967.
There are two types of Jade: Nephrite and Jadeite. The important property of all Jade is its toughness. Toughness in this context is the opposite of brittleness, and is a quite different property to hardness, which is simply resistance of a material to scratching. Diamond is the hardest substance in the world, but Jade is the toughest!
