Grape Agate Purple Chalcedony Mineral Specimen Druse Crystals
Known as Grape Agate or more accurately Grape Chalcedony.
This mineral specimen is 4 inches by 2.2 inches and 1.6 inches at its thickest.
It weighs 5 ounces or about 140 grams.
It is double sided, but does have some damage and weathering to the crystals.
Jaspers and Agates are members of the Chalcedony family, but usually banded ones are agates, opaque patterned ones are jasper and solid colored varieties are called Chalcedony.
Grape Agate is so named because of its purple color (or sometimes green color) and its botryoidal formation that resembles a cluster of grapes.
This lovely mineral specimen was first exported in 2015 and comes from one location only, the Mamuju area, Sulawesi Barat Province, Sulawesi, Indonesia.
Mining for Grape Agate is all done by hand and very intensive and a large percentage of the material is a ugly gray color.
