This lovely brick orangey red colored stone, with splashes of shiny Native Copper, came from the Calumet & Hecla Mine in Houghton County, Michigan. Formed in 1871, the Calumet & Hecla Mine is an underground copper mine consisting of 96 levels with 16 incline shafts and one vertical shaft named Red Jacket. Mining operations ceased in 1968 following a labor strike.
The camera dulls the shiny copper reflection-but it is very visible to the naked eye! The little black spots are Felsite pebbles. Felsite is a very fine grained volcanic rock containing feldspar and quartz.
Metaphysical Properties: It is believed Native Copper helps with communication. Many people wear copper jewelry believing it helps with arthritis.
