Botswana Agate Polished Collector Rock
Lovely banded Botswana Agate natural rock nodule with one polished face.
This lovely agate is 3.5 inches long by 1.25 inches wide and 1.28 inches thick.
Though discovered many years ago, Botswana Agates were first marketed in 1971, and is one of the best known agates in the world.
These semi precious gem stones form in small nodules and are generally white, gray, black, dark brown, red and pink. Extremely rare and sought after are colors of green, yellow and lilac.
Though more of a banded agate, it can be found occasionally with moss or tube inclusions.
Named for its location, Botswana Agates are about 140 to 180 million years old.
It is getting very hard to get this gorgeous banded agate semi precious gemstone material, known as Botswana Agate, due to export laws in Africa. All material must be "finished" in order to export, so one face of this piece is polished. This collector piece could be recut.
