This unpolished semiprecious stone slab of Bloodstone is 5.2 inches by 3.5 inches and 5 mm thick.
The unpolished rough rock slab weighs .30 lbs. and is shown wet in the first 2 pictures.
Lovely dark green jasper with tiny red spots (iron oxide).
This attractive chalcedony quartz is also known as Heliotrope because in ancient times polished stones were described as reflecting the sun.
Even today, finely pulverized Bloodstone is used as a medicine and aphrodisiac in India.
Medieval Christians used it to carve scenes of the crucifixion. The legend of the origin of Bloodstone says that it was first formed when some drops of Christ's blood fell and stained some jasper at the foot of the cross.
